Travel Tips
- Travel light!
One suitcase and one carry-on! After you have packed, look at
everything and ask yourself, "Do I really need it?"
You basically need comfortable casual clothes when traveling.
Add one nice suit or outfit for dinner or going to a show.
- Make sure you have all travel
documents before leaving home. Passport, tickets etc.
- Money: The best and cheapest way to
buy local currency is with your bank ATM card or credit
cards.
- Don't pack valuables in your suitcase! Carry with you any valuables you feel you
must take on your tour. Leave at home anything you especially
do not want to lose.
- Make sure your luggage is clearly
labeled.
- Shoes: Comfortable walking shoes are
a must.
- Plenty of film and batteries. Buy
these at home.
- Rainwear:
fold-up umbrella and lightweight rain coat.
- Remember to cancel paper, have post
office hold mail, let neighbors and Police know you will be away.
- There are all sorts of voltages and weird plugs used around the world.
Don't assume you can just plug in your laptop wherever you go.
Before you go, check your laptop's documentation. Most automatically
accommodate various voltages and electrical frequencies. If so, all you
need is an adapter for the plug. If your laptop only handles U.S.
electrical systems, you'll need a converter. You'll still need the plug
adapter, too.
- Also, it's a good idea to take a surge suppressor along. Power surges
can be very wearing on your computer. If you're unsure what you're
going to need, check the World Electric Guide at:
http://kropla.com/electric.htm
- Record
your passport number and credit card numbers in case you lose
them.
- If you do take travelers cheques, and
you are visiting more than one European country, you should get
Euro Cheques, the new common currency of Europe.
